commitment and conviction: effecting change in life

Fellow Pilgrim, Good morning

I pray that your life will overflow with the blessings of the Lord, today. You will finish well in Jesus name, amen.

You are welcome, if this is your first time of receiving our Newsletter. Please check the archive at www.thepilgrimsarcade.org to read more on previous editions on our discourse on the issue of Commitment and Conviction.

In the last episode we enumerated certain steps to take to ensure that there is a match between conviction and commitment in life. We agreed on the need to stay focus and commit ourselves to our deepest value and goals in life, mention was made of the need to be self-disciplined as well as the need to be a man or woman of integrity.

Today we will look at other steps to take to ensure that there is a match in our conviction and commitment in life.

The next step is to effect change in your life. Change is the process of becoming different. Apostle Paul said “when I was a child I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. (1 Corinthians 13:11). The only constant thing in life is change. Evaluate your investment of time, money and energy in life. Where you are today is a product of your choice and you can only make a significant progress in life when you are ready to “move your cheese” which is change.

To get to the place of your vision or desirable future you must be willing to make changes in your life.

The next point is “Go-For- It”. This is a popular cliché, and it means putting maximum efforts into achieving something. This is usually after a period of hesitation. Your period of waiting is over once you are convinced of what God wants you to do in life. Commit your life to it. Your dreams are waiting to be birthed, the world is waiting for you “for the earnest expectation of creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God” (Romans 8:19).

Finally, be passionate about your deep values and goals in life. Passion is defined as a very strong deeply felt emotion or belief, idea or a principle. A man is said to be passionate if he holds a very strong feeling towards a belief, an idea or principle. Passion is a powerful feeling of enthusiasm. It closes the existing gap between commitment and conviction. The early European Christian missionaries were driven by passion to go through the tortuous journey to bring the gospel of Christ to Africa. History is replete with great feats of men of passion whose accomplishment in arts and sciences have revolutionized man’s existence on earth. Passion is the melting pot for commitment and conviction. Passion sees needs, and pays the price or makes the sacrifice to get things done. Passion is based on convictions or strong beliefs and not subject to logical reasoning but conviction.

In conclusion, the gap between commitment and conviction closes as we passionately make purpose a life pursuit. The moment a man is able to divinely get an understanding of his purpose in life, he quits the seat of the unlearned. He is enlightened and no more in the dark. In either his private or public life his commitment is driven by his conviction for his deep values and goals in life.

Life is truly a journey. At Pilgrims Arcade you can succeed where others have failed.

Treasure

TREASURE

Fellow Pilgrim, Top of the day to you.

May your life overflow with His blessings today.

I really appreciate the feedbacks from some of our readers. Thank you for your encouragement and support.

In the previous edition on the subject of Commitment and Conviction we have examined two endowments by God, Time and Talents. Today we will be looking at the last endowment, Treasures. Check the archive at www.thepilgrimsarcade.org to read more on previous editions.

Treasures refer to money, fortunes, riches, wealth, gold, silver, possession etc. A man’s treasure occupies the central page of his life, hence the Lord Jesus said in Luke 12:34 “for where the treasure is, there your heart will also be.”

We need to emphasize here that God is the owner of all things. “The earth is the Lord’s and all it contains, the world and those who dwell in it” (Psalm 24:1). We come to this world with nothing and will leave at the end of our sojourn on earth with nothing.

It is in acknowledgment of this that made King David to say “Blessed be God who daily loads us with benefits”. God, without any prejudice channels His wealth through His faithful and wise servants.  He desires that the wealth given to a man be used for the good of all. You are expected to take care of your family, the poor or the needy, and for the kingdom of God.

Ownership of all things belongs to God, we are only stewards. All that we own is on loan to us.

There is no such thing as self-made man; who we are and who we ever become is from God. The greatest tragedy in life as illustrated in the parable of “the rich fool “(Luke 12:16) is to forget that all things are from God and become obsessed with life’s possession.

The Lord warned the children of Israel, not to think in their heart that their power and might of their hand has gotten them their wealth (paraphrased Deut. 8:17) but to think soberly in this way,” And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is the Lord your God that gives you power to get wealth....(Deut.8:18).

It is possible for us to believe this truth in theory but deny it in practice. Some areas of our lives are harder to yield to God than others. For many of us the financial area of our lives is one of the hardest. To give it over, we must stop trusting in money and life possession and in our ability to generate more and recognize God as the Source and Sustainer.

The rich fool had many cookies, he thought they were all for him. “This is what I’ll do, says the rich fool. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones and there I will store all my grain and my goods”. In the midnight the owner came for his soul. His sin: he was not rich towards his benefactor, God and other less privileged.

Being rich towards God begins with giving to God that which He desires most of all. And what He desire most from you is you, your heart and devotion, He desires us.  And as we offer ourselves to Him he blesses us more abundantly. Our lives overflow with His blessings. We become a channel of blessing to our generation and the next.

 Memory Verse

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. (I Timothy 6:17)

Prayer.

Lord, I thank you for the gift of life, and all that you put in my care.

Talents, everyman investment

TALENTS: EVERY MAN INVESTMENT

Top of the day to you my brethren, the day promises to be a good day. We are grateful for the breaking of this new day; we will end well in Jesus name,

Our last discourse centers on the timeless truth that God has endowed man with Time, Talents and Treasures and that a better appreciation of this will help a man to s ucceed in life. These issues are being addressed for you to have a conviction on what the lord has done for you and for you to commit yourself to the realization of these for your own good.

It was categorically stated that the singular difference between the most successful and the unsuccessful person in life is their commitment to the use of time for the actualization of their purposes in life. They spent quality time in developing themselves towards the fulfillment of God’s given vision.

We agreed that there was a need to stay focus on our dream and invest wisely in time to develop ourselves towards the actualization of God’s given dream for our lives.

Today, we will look at, Talent as God’s abundant gift to man. The word Talent, means the unit of weight used by many ancient civilizations such as the Hebrew, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Today, it means the natural endowments of a person. This is akin to the use of the word by our lord Jesus in the parable of the talent in Matthew 25:14-30.

The parable tells us that, that the master gives to each servant,” each according to his ability”. The lord has endowed all men according to their abilities.

In the New Testament the talent equal to a large sum of money, may be even as much as a million dollars in today’s currency. We are tempted to feel sorry for the servant with one talent, but in reality it was worth investing.

In the demonstration of His sovereignty, God- the master has endowed man with different talents or special aptitude, natural abilities or skills. Either in tiniest or more profound form, every man has a special abilities or endowment. Diversity is woven into the fabric of creation. We cannot protest!

The fulfillment of purpose in life is tied to talent. Talent on the other hand is found in your passion.

Talents are hidden treasures that a man must be willing to sell all to find, developed and used in the fulfillment of purpose in life.

What’s your talent?  Have you been able to find, harness and developed your talent(s)? Or have you buried it, with complaints that it was never enough, when compared to that of your friends and neighbours?

Don’t be unwise! The scripture says “for we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”( 2 Corinthians 10:12-13)

The outcome of faithful investment of talents is increased responsibilities for wise servants while servants go with regrets. Don’t look too far God have endowed your life with talent and as a wise investor, He is expecting returns on His investment in your life.

Memory verse

“For unto everyone that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth”( Matthew 25:29-30)

Prayer

Help me lord, make me a wise investor of time and talent that you have endowed my life with

Commitment and conviction: Time -God's abundant provision

COMMITMENT AND CONVICTION: TIME- GOD’S ABUNDANT PROVISION.

Today, we shall continue with our discourse on the subject of commitment and conviction. In the last episode, emphasis was laid on the issue of investing in time wisely. Check the archive at www.thepilgrimsarcade.org to read more on this.

We concluded that investing in time wisely brings us into a place of joy.

Today, we will go further to establish that to succeed in life God has endowed man with Time, Talents and Treasures (3Ts) in life for him to succeed on earth. A better of appreciation of these endowments will put you and I in a better place to optimize our life here on earth.

Let’s start with the first endowment, Time. In a simple term time can be defined as continuous and it is calculated as the interval between separate two points of a quantity also known as duration.

For the purpose of argument, time for man on earth is the interval between the period of his birth and death. The period of one’s existence on earth is short no matter how long a man lives.

There is therefore no need to procrastinate what need to be done today.  Procrastination they say is the thief of time. Delay may be dangerous.

Our Lord Jesus addressed the issue urgency of purpose in life when He said “I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4).

Time of life should be used in the pursuit of purpose and the actualization of it. As long as a man is not committed to the actualization of his purpose, he wastes time. And he eventually comes to regret.

Don’t let a day go by without investing time in actualization of your dreams and aspirations in life, either by praying, reading or developing your skills which is the talent that God has bestowed on every man.

The singular difference between the most successful and the unsuccessful person in life is their commitment to the use of time for the actualization of their purposes in life. They spent quality time in developing themselves towards the fulfillment of God’s given vision.

Life, no doubt is full of distractions and time wasters, stay focus on your dreams, hold on to your dreams and be committed to its actualization.

Memory Verse

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (Hab.2:30)

Prayer.

Lord, with each passing days, help me to be committed to the actualization of my purpose in life so that I won’t come to the end of my life in regret.
